A castle under siege had two jobs: keep the attackers out, and keep the people inside alive until help came or terms were agreed. You walk it as a young squire. The gatehouse and the wall walk show how it kept attackers out; the well and the storerooms work out, from the numbers sheltering inside, how many days of water and food are left; and at the council table those days decide the lord's answer to the herald. The stops share their numbers, so letting in more refugees shortens the siege.
